    What is the effect of war on public health? Dr. Nassim Assefi, an internist with a focus on women's health, was practicing at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and teaching at the University of Washington School of Medicine in 2003, when she was invited by the American Medical Women's Association to visit Afghanistan. Dr. Assefi subsequently spent two years working in Afghanistan, where she established a program to reduce maternal and infant mortality through an NGO called Management Sciences for Health. She shares her experiences with host Dr. Leslie Lundt.
